Summer Lips 2014

SomeHoney.co.uk
SomeHoney.co.ukYou heard it here first ladies, its our lips that are letting us down in the marriage worthy stakes according to the vintage flashback posted yesterday. But fear not, for this summer there is much to love from our favourite offers.

I'm going to start with Chanel because sometimes you just need an extra special lipstick and the 2014 summer collection is really something. The colours are a kind of creamy sheer (if that makes sense?). They're not as saturated as I normally go for - pigment wise, but I suppose it is summer and most women probably want a light wearing lip.

A lot of brands are going for a real splurge in the pinks and oranges and I thought orange had peaked last year but boy was I wrong. It's everywhere at the moment. I must have a hundred different pink lipsticks and I still never tire of checking out all the new ones. I only have 2 orange-ish ones but I haven't really worn them because I always end up deciding that one of my pinks just do it better. I used to think oranges were for warm hued women only, but this is no longer a good excuse as every tone of orange - including some good cool toned oranges have hit the shelves so I might have to drum up some enthusiasm and check them out as pink every day is, well, a bit predictable. They do say that peach is a colour that suits all women so I guess that must mean I simply haven't met my match yet. One things for sure - if I'm ever going to meet an orange lipstick I like and can actually wear without feeling like a clown, its this year.

 Chanel's Rouge Allure range £25
I think its really interesting that Chanel has set the stage with their 2014 colours: you'll notice that all the major brands are replicating these hues. Personally I prefer the Rouge Coco for light wear, but you can also pick up Coco shine, Coco creme, Rouge luminous and Allure velvet - phew! so there's definitely a formulation for you in amongst those.

I've decided on these two colours, a pink and an orange - they're just so seasonal and I feel like I can pick up the other colours any time of year.

Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm £7.99
I know the lacquer version of these balms are getting a lot of love in the beauty world, but I never took to them. I find the lacquer version wishy washy in the pigment and really not worth the effort. The new Matte Balms however? I LOVE THEM! They are super versatile and for a good dose of pigment, the texture goes on creamy. After lining my lips in the morning, I like to top up my applications with these 'chubby style' sticks and they are so easy to throw into the handbag. No fuss re-application. I hope they extend this range after summer as the matte option is real keeper.

Clinique Chubby Sticks Lip Balm £17
The original but not necessarily the best. The colours aren't as pigmented as I'd like but for a care free easy wear lip balm, I suppose they're just fine. For the price point however, you might as well pick up the Revlon.

I'm lucky to have a Boots around the corner from me so I'm always in there, seeing what's new and feeding the beauty junky within. Right now, Boots have some great specials on and I'll be trying out some new looks to get me through a back to back week of wedding ahead,

It is the season of love afterall :)
